Building the Future of Art Storage

How Kortmann Continues to Store Art Safely and Sustainably. In our previous blog, we shared how Kortmann works every day on professional and sustainable depot management. But we look beyond the depot of today. The world of art is changing, and the demand for reliable, future proof storage is growing alongside it. That’s why we continue to build. Literally.

More space for art, built on trust. A new, sustainable depot section is rising alongside our headquarters in Hoofddorp. This expansion is designed according to the same principles as our current depots: safety, stability, and object care. But now with an even sharper focus on the future.

“This expansion feels like a true personal victory,” says Frans Kortmann.
“We’re not just adding extra square meters we’re building trust. A place where art will remain safe for the next twenty years and beyond under the right conditions, with sustainability at its core. That’s not marketing speak; it’s what we stand for as a company.”

What to expect:
CO₂-neutral construction
Solar panels on the roof
Green façades that contribute to both insulation and visual appeal
Advanced climate control systems
Space for specialized storage solutions

Like our existing depot, the new section will have a closed, bunker-like structure no windows, with maximum control over temperature, humidity, and security.

Why this expansion is needed. The art world is evolving. Collections are growing, museums are collaborating more intensively, and private collectors are increasingly seeking professional storage partners.

This growth brings new needs and responsibilities. With this expansion, we create room to meet those demands – now and in the future. It allows us to continue offering tailor-made solutions without compromising on quality or sustainability.

Depot management with a view to tomorrow. At Kortmann, we look beyond the object of today. We invest in systems, people, and facilities that will make a difference ten, twenty, or even thirty years from now.

Our mission remains the same: to store art safely, with the utmost care.
But how we do that evolves with the times just like our space.
